Small Worlds at the Edge of Things

2 × 3 in. · Hand-cut
Paper  ·  Watercolor  ·  Beading  ·  Mixed Media

A collection of three hand-cut, hand-assembled miniature landscapes, each no larger than 3 inches in any dimension. The works draw from three landscapes held close: the Cordillera Central of Puerto Rico, the island’s coastal towns, and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Appalachia. Each piece distills a place into its essentials, the kind of terrain that exists at the edge of things, where land meets sky without ceremony.

Each piece begins with layers of hand-cut paper, built up to create depth and topography. Watercolor washes are applied to individual elements before assembly, allowing color to pool naturally along cut edges. Seed beads and micro accents are placed by hand to suggest light, water, and the small textures of the natural world.
