This collection draws from the abundance of a baker’s morning — cinnamon rolls, croissants, loaves, and cake rendered in hand-formed clay, each piece shaped, glazed, and finished by hand. Pastel pigments and parchment paper were used to bring texture and realism.
Working at 1:12 changes what you pay attention to: surface detail, proportion, and finish matter in ways that are easy to overlook at full scale.
Inspired by the work of Tomo Tanaka, a Japanese artist who specializes in 1:12 and 1:24 scale miniatures from clay and epoxy.
The basket of fruit was a gift from a dear friend and is the only piece in the collection the artist did not make.
